And just like that the first half of 2015 has come and gone. It went by both slow and fast as time has a way of doing. So far it has been a big year for our family! Moving to North Dakota and adding a fourth member to our now complete family being the two biggest changes.
However, another big thing, for me at least has been moving forward on my creative journey in hopes of turning it into a full-time career over the next couple of years. This was the year I really started taking myself seriously and examining what long term goals I would need to set and work toward accomplishing to make it happen. The first and foremost for me was that I needed to MAKE THE ART! It sounds simple but for me, I am awesome at coming up with ideas, planning, and organizing what I will do with all my art work, but I get so caught up, that I forget I actually have to HAVE artwork to execute those ideas!
So, after stumbling upon Crystal Moody's Year of Creative Habits I decided this was to going to be my year of creating. I started an art journal with the intention of creating a sketch/ painting of a different fruit and/or vegetable everyday. However, I quickly learned that everyday was not going to work for me with a two year old at home and baby on the way and quickly cut it back to 3 times a week. I LOVE that I started this because it truly has become a habit! Above are some of my favorites from this year (in no particular order) and I can really start to see my style emerging, which I feel like is something I struggled with for a long time.
And now, for the past month I haven't sketched or painted at all now that little Olivia is here :) I knew coming into this that this would most likely be the case for the month of June and had already given myself permission to take some "time off" from creating to focus on taking care of myself and my family. I am learning as my new role as mother-of-two where my small pockets of free time are and am trying to figure out how I want to spend them. I am really itching to get painting and scrapbooking again and on some days that pent up creative energy can leave me feeling VERY frustrated! But this is what season my life is in right now and I am doing my best to embrace it. So what are my creative plans for the rest of the year?
1. Continue my monthly One Little Word and Month-to-Month Derek projects.
2. Start a new Month-to-Month Olivia project.
3. Keep working on my Year of Creative Habits projects with the goal of at least one painting per week to start. I am going to be sticking to the produce subject matter for the most part, but am going to throw in some nature inspired pieces here and there.
4. Work on pages and content for an upcoming scrapbooking e-course I am putting together.
5. Continue designing for Scraptastic Kit Club.
Here's to a happy, productive, and inspired second half of 2015!
