Well, I can honestly say I've been slacking a bit these past two weeks. Excuses are always easy to come up with, so here are mine :) Derek and I both got sick, I am 8 months pregnant (and exhausted), we had out of town house guests, annnnd I've been putting a lot of my "painting time" into other projects. Anyhow, I have a total of four drawings over two weeks which is quite far from my goal. But, moving forward I can do better and so I shall.
These little scallions were very simple and really lent themselves to the new style of line drawing I have been toying with. I really like how they turned out and am hoping to adopt this style for some prints I have planned for my shop sometime in the future.
While I have been enjoying the pen illustrations, I just had to go realistic and tradition for the pear. I am letting the subject dictate how I feel like portraying it. We got a fruit basket with a bunch of delicious pears in it for Easter and I had fun painting this one.
My first duplicate. I ran out of new produce in the house and thought better to repeat than not paint/ draw anything! So, bananas take two. Dave commented that they look very comic bookish :)
Another dupe, but I tried some different cuts/ angles this time. I actually like this better than my original apple watercolor, which I did in like week 4?. I've noticed that with some fruit/ veggies the time of day I paint depends on when I feel like eating it afterwards because otherwise it would go bad (like this apple and the avocado).
I am really happy with where my style is going and what I am honing in on. It is really freeing to just put pen to paper and go without sketching in pencil first (something I have done since high school)! More next week :)
