This week went by FAST! I feel like I wasn't as focused on this project this week because I have been using my painting time (otherwise known as nap time) for some watercolor paintings I am working on making into prints in the near future.
This grapefruit was my first of the week and by far my favorite! It is one of my favorite fruits to eat and was really fun to paint!
This poblano was a little tricky, but a perfect subject to work on shadows and highlights because it was so shiny. I felt that it looked a bit rushed, but maybe that is only because I know I was in a hurry while painting it. It was a huge pepper and tasted delicious in our chili for dinner :)
I decided to go with marker for the butternut squash because I knew I had the right colors for it and just the texture of the skin looked like it would work well and it did :) The shadows are a bit dark and I need to get a middle tone warm grey marker. The color for the fleshy part of the inside was good, but the marker didn't allow for the pulp/ seed details.
I am getting better with using the full value scale and even amounts of light/ dark but I still think it is the thing I most need to consciously work on. It is getting to a point with this project where it is really fun to see them all together!! I am not really going to pick a focus for this next week and instead let the subject (and amount of time I have to work) dictate the medium, level of detail, etc.
